CHRIST IS THE VINE AND WITHOUT HIM WE CAN DO NOTHING ~ By Christian Author Elena Ramirez

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he takes away, and every branch that bears fruit he purges it, that it may grow more fruit.  Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.  Abide in me, and I in you.  As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abides in the vine.  No more can you except you abide in me.  I am the vine you are the branches, he that abides in me, and I in him the same brings forth much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.  If a man  abides not in me, he is cast forth as a branch and is withered and men gather them and cast them into the fire and they are burned.  If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, so shall you be my disciples.  John 15:1-8

I love these scriptures, and the way Christ expressed himself, using an analogy of a vine.  I can imagine him, and as I look through the scriptures, this was documented, sometime after the last supper.  In the holy gospel of John.

After washing the disciples feet, and talking to Peter, informing him, that he would deny him three times. Somewhere inbetween that and being in the garden, where Christ had gone to pray, and then being arrested.   They must have walked to the garden.

I don’t see the documentation referring to it….  But I see Jesus, talking, and walking with his disciples to the garden.  I can see Jesus, as he walks, talking along the way, perhaps, looking to the heavens, and seeing the beauty of God’s creation around him.  It is a lovely evening.  The sun is probably ready to come down.  He knows he will be arrested that night, and that he will be crucified, so these last quiet moments with his disciples, in this little walk, probably hold so much meaning to him.  With every sense, of his being he is feeling so very much.  Life….

He has already described many things that are to happen to him.  Perhaps they passed a beautiful mansion, on the way to the garden, because Christ, mentions, that there are many mansions, in God’s Kingdom, and he goes to prepare a place for us his believers.  Here as he walks, he says to his disciples…I am the way, the truth and the life.  He knows, what is ahead for him.  And he knows whats ahead for us..

So, I see him stop and perhaps, catch his breath, from the walk.  Can you see him, admiring a beautiful vine growing?  He looks at it, and there describes, that he is the vine.  And God the father, is the main gardener.  Who, will purge the branches, to bring more fruit.  I can see him tenderly, taking the vine in his hand, and admiring, each leaf, each bud.  Maybe taking time, to smell the beauty of the flower from the vine.

And as I reflect on the above scriptures, I cannot help and think, how beautiful his love is for us.  Even in this comparison of a vine.  That with him, we can grow, we can reach full potential to be the very, very best, that we can be with him.  But without him, we wither, and we die.  And we like the branch is cast into the fire, and burned.  Even there, Christ is warning us of the consequences of sin, and hell.  One could miss it….perhaps, even by being distracted, in this reading.

Even now, in our lives, by being distracted…..  We can miss, so much of God, by getting distracted.  By not seeing the beauty of who he is.  By not praying, by not seeking him in his word, by not going to church. By not letting him walk with us.  By not spending quiet time with him in our own gardens.  These particular scriptures, are so very symbolic.  Yet, true to life.  Christ is life!  Can we not see without him, we can do nothing?  I see it more, clearly than ever.  Without Christ, I am nothing!

And yet we can miss it.  Not truly growing to full potential of who we can be in him.  I know.  I know the difference before Christ was in my life, and now.  And I was so close to just being destroyed, like a branch without life.  I see the difference.  Before Christ, was in my life, and now afterwards….

We are growing, on the vine with him.  In my life, I have seen him purge my life, so many times.  Taking things away from me, that really did not serve true purpose. Like friends, or people who did not help me grow. Attitudes etc. Sometimes, I could not understand why.  But I do see now.

I long to see, more fruit in my life.  I long to know Christ more.  In the beauty of who he is, I see things so differently.  Because he is my savior.  Because he lives and loves in my heart.  He brings such a wonderful perspective to life.  I see that I have grown, but I want to be the very best that I can be in Christ, and in his plans.

I look at this little photo, of my particular tree, that is growing, and I see how some of the blossoms need to develop and grow.  Like any of us, in our personalities, our attitudes, our gifts and callings, we have to grow in Christ, to be the best that we can be.  In his love…Do you see yourself on the vine with Christ?

I encourage you to read the gospel of John….more so, for it describes to us, from Christ’s perspective who he is, but who we can be in him.

Blessings, and Just my Thoughts, In his Love….Elena Ramirez

A Prayer of Hope….

Father, Thank you for letting me see Jesus in these few moments before he walked to the garden….private moments even for our Lord.  As he reflects on who you are.  As he reflects on who we can be, as we grow on the vine.  My prayer, is that whoever would also be reading this, would see Jesus in these moments.  And desire to grow on the vine, to be the best, that he or she could be.  To take note, if we do not, we are tossed to the ground.  Branches, that dry up, and are tossed in the fire.  Thank you Father, for sending Christ.  For truly he is the way, the truth, and the life.  In Jesus name.  Amen
